Cheat sheet: Running a meeting

Basic Process

  • Identify the goal / requirements of the meeting.

  • Use the above to form an agenda (A prioritized checklist to go through during the meeting).

Each agenda item must have:

  • A description.

  • Required outcomes.

  • Identified project filters and constraints.

As you discuss each item, you must note down decisions, outcomes, and action items. At the end of the meeting, summarize all of the action items.

You must know:

  • What it is?

  • Who does it?

  • When it’s due?

TIPS:

  • Someone good at sticking to the script should be mindful to bring discussions back when they go off topic or descend into circular arguments.

  • Have a designated note-taker and use a whiteboard.
